October is breast cancer awareness month. Mainstream society wants you to sit around and wait until you're 40+ to start getting mammograms in order to "prevent breast cancer." Mainstream society has dumbed down breast cancer prevention to the simple act of getting an annual mammogram. Meanwhile, all kinds of toxic chemicals and stagnating practices are pushed onto Black women.
Black women are diagnosed with breast cancer less frequently than whites, but when Black women are diagnosed, the cancer is often very advanced and more likely to be terminal.
There's plenty we can do everyday to take care of our breasts. Catching a tumor during a mammogram just means that the tumor had a chance to form. I'm not saying don't get a mammogram. I'm not saying go get one either. What I am saying is that you can take an active role in caring for your breasts and prevent cancerous tumor growth.
1. Ditch the heavy metal deodorant and anti antiperspirant
Make your own deodorant instead. Know that your armpits are supposed to perspire. It's natures way. Stopping that natural bodily function can mean major stagnation and illness in the body.
2. Go wireless (bras that is)
Keep the flow of chi in our breast region by not wearing overly tight bras or bras with metal wires.
3. MOVE you boobs
Jump up and down. Shimmy. Shake your breasts. Give your breasts and opportunity to break up stagnation and cysts before they become tumors. Enroll in a bellydance or African dance class. These dance forms pay special attention in moving the rib cage and breasts.
4. Love on your breasts (self-massage)
Couple your traditional breast exam with a self-care massage. Learn to love your body in the mirror. Say positive things about yourself aloud or in your head as you do your massage. Conduct your massage with intention to release toxins, embrace love, affirm wellness, express gratitude and revel in the joy of being a woman.
Revel in the joy of being a woman.
5. Breastfeed your babies
Mothers who breastfeed have far less likelihood of developing breast cancer.
6. Drink you water
Help your body flush out toxins. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of purified water a day.
