Incorporating a gratitude practice in your daily self-care and Spiritual care regimen offers many benefits. A gratitude practice simply is an acknowledgment of what you are grateful for. A gratitude practice has to do with getting into the feeling of gratitude and appreciation. The feeling of gratitude makes your soul feel filled with joy. It’s a humbling feeling.
Here are 5 amazing ways that a gratitude practice will improve your life:
1. Live in the present moment
Anxiety and worrying are directly related to the future. You have anxiety about things that you think might happen in the future, and you worry about outcomes or instances in the future that you’re not sure about. Regret, grief, shame, and guilt all stand from dwelling in the past.
However, focusing your attention on what you are grateful for any feelings of gratitude instantly brings you into the present. In the present is where you have all of the power to make decisions, take action, and feeling control. Thinking of actual things that you have in your possession or blessings, and acknowledging what’s going right will help you instantly come into the present moment. By coming into the present moment, you release anxiety, worry, fear, regret, grief, shame, and guilt. These emotions will have less control over you. You will have more control over your life by being in the present moment.
2. Grow and expand what you have
When you focus on what you have, you express gratitude, thankfulness and appreciation for what you have. You can then grow and expand what you have. Anything that you focus on expands and grows. So if you’re a dwelling in the past, and regretting and lamenting what has happened you may attract those same negative situations to yourself. If you think about what you don’t have and what you lack and are afraid of, you attract more lack, fear, and poverty. However, when you focus on what you have including the little things, the small things, the big things, the ignificant things, the less significant things, you expand and grow what you have. You expand, grow and attract more of what you want to your life.
3. Appreciate life to the fullest
When feelings of gratitude radiate through your body, you feel a deep appreciation for life. You feel a deep appreciation for your own life, the lives of those around you, and humanity in general. You appreciate the dynamic interaction between you and the Universe. You feel significant and humble at the same time. You start to slow down and appreciate things like butterflies flying through the air. You appreciate the birds chirping and singing. You appreciate the fact that you woke up and took a breath in the morning. You feel more reverence and appreciation for life when you focus on what you are grateful for and why you so grateful for it.
4. Increase inner peace
When you focus on what you are grateful for, you exponentially increase your inner peace. This minimizes depression. When you’re feeling a deep sense of inner peace, you don’t have space in your heart for much depression. When you think of all the things that you have to be grateful for you to feel humble and this leads you to feeling more at peace. When you’re feeling in the present moment and growing and expanding exactly what you want in life this attracts peace in your life. From this place of peace you can contemplate next actions, solidify your purpose in life, and generally live to the fullest.
5. Focus on what’s important to you
When you identify what you are grateful for and give thanks by prayer, meditation, journaling, contemplating, or your unique way of expressing gratitude, it allows you to focus on what is important. The things that you feel grateful for and that bring you the most joy in life are revealed themselves to you as what’s important to you. You can then focus your life on these important aspects. This will increase your productivity, and you will feel like you are making progress in your life. You’ll feel like you are headed on the right path and that you are making great strides. You will also find more joy and fulfillment on the journey towards achieving your highest and greatest self.
